How it works

 

Vein treatments use advanced laser technology to target and destroy the blood vessels responsible for veins, causing them to visibly disappear. Since the laser targets the blood vessels within the vein, there is minimal or no damage to the outer layer of skin.

TECHNOLOGY:

Two different wavelengths of light are most ideal for laser hair removal because they allow the clinician to access and more precisely target thinner/finer hair, as well as hair in darker skin types. It is the propensity of high melanin absorption with the 755nm (Alexandrite) wavelength that makes it ideal for lighter skin types and lighter, finer hair. The 1064nm (Nd:YAG) wavelength can be used for all skin types and is the safest option for darker skin types as well as tanned skin. Being equipped with both wavelengths in a single device allows the clinician to treat all six skin types and, equally as important, allows for treatment all year long regardless of sun exposure or seasonality. While some might argue that the 810nm Diode can be used on darker skin types, it is important to note that 1064nm is even less absorbed by melanin and penetrates deeper, more effectively bypassing skin pigment. Furthermore, thick coarse hair bulbs tend to be deeper in the skin so I personally prefer the deeper penetrating 1064nm wavelength for this coupled with its superior safety for darker skin types. With that said, some 810nm Diode devices can deliver compelling results and have been well researched. IPL can be used for hair removal as well, but most devices are very limited in the skin types that can be safely treated and IPL devices are often not powerful enough to provide permanent hair reduction that satisfies today’s discerning patients. As such, Diode lasers are noted as offering less precision and IPL devices are relegated to being more entry level tools as opposed to the gold standard that a 755nm/1064nm affords the judicious clinician.

 

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

 Laser hair removal works by emitting light that is then absorbed by melanin in the hair. The light is converted to thermal energy and ultimately results in purposeful damage to the hair follicles at their bulbs which, in turn, minimizes and eventually eliminates hair regrowth. This technology allows clinicians to selectively target the structures, with the goal of having the photothermal energy heat the intended object without damaging the surrounding skin. Again, when implemented appropriately, patients receiving laser hair removal treatments will observe a slowing of hair regrowth followed by thinner, finer, and less dense overall hair growth. Many of the treated hair follicles will be permanently destroyed leading to zero regrowth whatsoever.

 

GROUNDBREAKING ADVANCEMENTS:

The advent of the Skintel® Melanin Reader™ technology is a key differentiator setting the Elite iQ apart from its competitors. It allows for objective skin typing and thus increases the chances of a safe, effective treatment while greatly decreasing the risk of an adverse reaction. This game-changing melanin reader offers an objective quantification (a score from 0 to 99) which directly corresponds to a Fitzpatrick Skin Type (FST). This feature allows the clinician to take readings in different anatomical areas and then adjust the treatment parameters accordingly. To get more granular, the skin type in the axilla of a specific patient may be different than the skin type noted on his or her back and should thus be treated with different settings. By ensuring that the patient receives proper skin typing, the risk for adverse reactions such as pigmentary changes and micro-crusting is mitigated with the ability to assess FST more accurately, including as a result of sun exposure, and apply the recommended settings for that specific patient. Through the use of Skintel technology the clinician can now treat with more confidence because they are providing a customized, individualized treatment tailored to the patient’s specific skin type.
